Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative force behind Dior’s womenswear, continues to captivate with her latest collection for Autumn/Winter 2024, drawing inspiration from a transformative moment in the fashion house’s history—the birth of Miss Dior. This season, Chiuri’s vision pays homage to the pivotal era when fashion transcended the confines of the atelier, embracing a new era of accessibility and innovation.

Reflecting on the inception of Miss Dior under the guidance of Marc Bohan and Philippe Guibourgé in 1967, Chiuri celebrates their forward-thinking approach. “I think [Bohan] was really visionary for the time because the couture house was in difficulty,” Chiuri remarks. “They had this relationship only with these couture clients—and women were changing. Not all the couture-house creative directors were so visionary to understand the new era and new women.”

The runway spectacle at Paris Fashion Week showcased a seamless fusion of heritage craftsmanship with contemporary flair. Echoing Bohan’s legacy, the color palette exuded vibrancy with hues of white, orange, pink, and neon green. The iconic ‘Miss Dior’ logo took center stage, adorning outerwear and skirts like urban graffiti—a nod to the brand’s storied past intertwined with modern sensibilities.

In a departure from the structured silhouettes of the past, this season embraces fluidity and ease. The emphasis is on roomy yet sophisticated shapes, eschewing restrictive waistlines in favor of garments that embrace and celebrate the natural contours of the body.

Collaboration with artists has always been integral to Chiuri’s vision, and Autumn/Winter 2024 is no exception. Indian artist Shakuntala Kulkarni’s striking decor set the stage, exploring the female form and its connection to diverse environments, adding depth and dimension to the runway experience.
