In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Nicole Kidman revealed her dream of sharing the stage with a drag queen to pay homage to her iconic “we make movies better” AMC ad. The 56-year-old actress, featured as the cover star for the magazine’s April 2024 Impact Issue, expressed her desire to bring her vision to life.

Reflecting on the behind-the-scenes creation of the 2021 commercial, Kidman reminisced about filming it over a hectic weekend while simultaneously working on the Lucille Ball movie, Being the Ricardos. Her motivation stemmed from a deep-seated desire to reignite the love for cinemas post-COVID-19.

“Cinemas are a safe haven for me, so the idea of those not existing — that’s just not part of the equation in my lifetime,” Nicole Kidman emphasized, underscoring her commitment to the art of cinema.

The emotional resonance of Kidman’s performance in the ad, particularly her iconic line: “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” mirrors the depth she brings to all her acting endeavors. She shared, “I’m fortunate that I’ve got a job where I get to explore emotional landscapes… I’m committed to examining life, what it means to be alive and feel.”

The revamped version of the original ad, released by AMC Theatres on March 1, features Kidman relishing moments from recent blockbusters like Elvis and Avatar: The Way of Water. The ad has garnered a cult-like following since its premiere, inspiring Halloween costumes, spoofs by drag queens and SNL, and even a jest from Jimmy Kimmel at last year’s Oscars.

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron hailed the ad as part of the American zeitgeist, announcing plans for two additional versions to amplify Kidman’s impact as their spokesperson. Despite the humorous undertones, Kidman takes the jests in stride, indicating her readiness for future endeavors, stating, “If that’s what it takes, I’ll do whatever it takes.”

With Aron confirming Kidman’s continued role as their spokesperson for at least another year, it’s evident that Kidman’s vision for revitalizing the magic of cinema remains unwavering.

In conclusion, Kidman’s aspiration to collaborate with drag queens for a tribute to her iconic AMC ad underscores her commitment to the art of cinema and her desire to bring diverse voices to the forefront of the industry.
